ALUMNI Q&A

Advice from Pandemonium Alumni

Pandemonium Productions presented “Shrek the Musical” as a Santa Fe theatre premiere in 2014. Featured below is advice for the current 2024 cast from "Shrek" Pandemonium players who performed in 2014 or 2019. (Sonja performed in both!)

What part did you play in Shrek?

Tenzin: I played Lord Farquaad, the true royalty of Duloc.

Jack: I played the part of Shrek!

Miya: I played ogre Fiona and I was also a Duloc dancer.

Sonja: I played a swamp creature in the 2014 show and in 2019 I played the gingerbread man.

What advice do you have for the 2024 cast?

Tenzin: Always treat each other with respect, acting in front of people takes a lot of guts and courage. People show vulnerability when entering roles, so always treat each other with utmost respect, kindness and dignity towards your fellow actors and crew members.

Jack: The music for this show is fantastic and beautiful. Make sure you really take the time to learn it on your own. It can be very difficult to rely on watching the musical over and over again as the actors take a lot of liberty in their performance. Take some extra time and work with your lovely musical director!

Miya: Make bold choices! This is a show with lots of characters with big personalities so don’t be afraid to make big choices!

Sonja: The advice I have is to really have fun with this show. It’s a show about letting who you really are show so don’t try to be perfect just have fun with it. It’s also a very energetic show so don’t hold back.

What can you say to get the 2024 cast excited to be in “Shrek the Musical”?

Tenzin: Shrek was personally one of my top 3 performances I did with Pandemonium. This show allows you to be funny, serious, honest and sometimes outrageous. This show has such fun characters as well as dynamics with other characters throughout the show! Create, enjoy, and share yourselves for everyone to see.

Jack: Once again, the music is really fun and so is the comedy. I’d watch the original Shrek movie since the story is about the same. Also watch the musical on netflix! The cast is awesome.

Editor's Note: Shrek the Musical is no longer on Netflix, but you can watch the musical numbers on YouTube.

Miya: This show is so much fun! There are so many fun and funny characters plus the music in this show is so good (truly every song is a bop and will get stuck in your head for days). Shrek the musical is one of those shows that has no bad parts, even if you’re in the ensemble the music and dances are so much fun!

Sonja: This was one of my favorite shows I have done. I love the music and Ms. Diana did a great job with her choreography matching the energy of the music.

A big thank you to the 2014 and 2019 Pandemonium Alumni for their time and attention to help the 2024 cast! Pandemonium Productions Presents "Shrek the Musical" this Spring.
